Day in the Life - Bank Holiday Roadtrip

Morning Everyone!

Long time no blog post I am aware... but I can't keep apologising for being a rubbish blogger so onwards and upwards!

Today's post is a day in the life, I had such a lovely day yesterday I wanted to blog about it so in 20 years time I have a record of what a good day it was!

Easter weekend 2016 - Good Friday
                 Friday 25th March

Dad bangs on my door at exactly 4:55 & the happy memories of my childhood come flooding back... When we were little everyweekend the four of us, Mum,Dad and my brother Cam used to go for day trips to the Isle of Wight ALL THE TIME, I mean I'm not exaggerating if we were not down for the weekend we would be down for the day and this would happen at leat 2/3 times a month!

But as we grow older things change, me and my brother have started creating our own lives which of course my parents encourage!! That sounded like they are feeling left behind and we are some god awful children who never see their parents anymore..no not at all. We all still live under the same roof and still eat dinner most nights as a family but now we all work full time, boyfriends and girlfriends are in the equation and our social lives are ever changing. So needless to say it's rare when we all have a day off together with no plans!!

I recently got a new job which requires me to work bank holidays so up until Wednesday I was expecting to work all weekend.. Well Friday and Monday which is fine as later in the year I have 2 extra days holiday to take! When I found out I could have Friday off we decided as a family as the weather Friday would be the best we would head down to the Isle of Wight for the day!

So at 5:30 on the dot, car loaded with pillows sunglasses and headphones we set off for Southampton to catch the 8am ferry! Mornings are a lot harder now than they were 10 years ago!!
The ferry across was fine, a bacon and hash brown bap on the ferry (sorry bootcamp) and I was set for the day! By 9am we had arrived in East Cowes and we're heading to our favourite place on the Island... Sandown! The Isle of Wight is like stepping back in time but in the best possible way!

The sun was shining and the beach looked incredible... Sunshine and seaside was just what the doctor ordered!

We took a football down with us and there is some courts right by the beach that dad and cam played in for ages and me and mum sat watching and sunning ourselves...it honestly felt like summer, no cool breeze just sun!

We walked along the beach as far as we could go drawing my name in the sand...that's a must when at the beach right?

We stayed on the beach for ages and wandered into the Pier and spent some 2ps! On the walk back to the car we stopped and go an Ice Cream from my favourite place which I think is called the Sundial which is right on the beach.. Cherry and White chocolate..yes please!

We then drove up to the top of culver cliff which gives you lush views of the island. It's the cliff to the left in the below photo..

Me and Cam got out of the car and went exploring whilst mum and dad read the Isle of Wight newspaper looking for houses...shock! The views were breath taking and it surprised us all me and Cam were together for about half an hour and didn't kill each other!!

Another snap...

And another...

We then drove around for a few hours, stopping off at little seaside towns just exploring and looking for a box of fudge for Andy!

Side note - Andy wasn't due home from London till 9pm Friday so everything was perfect what I didn't realise was as all these Isle of Wight plans were so last minute Andy had booked an earlier train home to surprise me and I had buggered off for the day!!! Luckily I have the best boyfriend in the world so he was more happy for me having a day out than he was trusted I wasn't there for the surprise!! So I treated him to fudge to make up for ruining my surprise!

The day soon drew to a close and we headed back to get the 3pm ferry home! We arrived at the docks to wait and wait and wait to find out the ferry was broken and they were doing all the can to fix it. We waited and waited and waited and then after going for a walk getting a cuppa and starting to annoy each other at 4:30 they finally let us on and we began our journey home.

Even with the delayed ferry and ruining my boyfriends surprise I had the best day ever. It's so important to have family days and appriciate those close to you, as time flies and anything can happen. I cannot wait to head back to the Isle of Wight for a summer mini break! Roll on July!

The day ended with going to Andys at 7:30 and having the best roast ever cooked by his family! Just what I needed!

Now it's Saturday and I'm laying in bed waiting for Andy to wake up, we have sugar great day planned so I might even blog about today too!

Have a lovely Easter weekend and eat all the chocolate (especially mini eggs) you can get your hands on!!

Love Em xx
